You are about to start a journey that will take you the farthest reaches of space and innermost depths of matter, from the beginning of time to the future billions of years from now. This course will introduce learners to the wonders of the entire universe. You will find it such a fascinating experience that you will want to learn more about those places in your own free time, in your garden with binoculars or telescope or perhaps in conjunction with your local astronomy club.
NB Skills Funding Agency - if learners are on means tested benefits they may be entitled to get the course for free (need to provide evidence at enrolment session)
Look up to the stars with Northumberland Astronomical Society - an early evening event in half term week - outside Ponteland Library.
Northumberland Astronomical Society will be bringing at least one telescope for children and families to look through on the patio outside the library (weather permitting). There will also be a short film presentation inside the library. An ideal half-term activity for children of all ages - handouts & activity sheets to take away to do over half term!
This session is for pre-school children (usually 18 months plus). Parents/carers and toddlers take part in songs, rhymes and active stories. Adults are expected to take part, and everyone who comes along is given a free nursery rhyme book so that they can repeat the activities at home. Children take it in turns to help with the stories, songs and rhymes. This encourages special bonding with parents/carers and gives parents and carers more confidence in sharing books with children.
Come and join fun poet Craig Bradley for two afternoons of creative writing to celebrate the City Library’s 1st birthday. Children and young people must be able to attend both sessions. Suitable for ages 8 and over. Event is free, but booking required.
Join us in Eldon Square for dragon story times and crafts to celebrate National Family Week. The event is free and there is no need to book – just turn up! All welcome.
