This celebratory evening, on what would have been James Kirkup's 92nd birthday, will feature the results of the first James Kirkup Memorial Poetry Competition.  The event is a collaboration between Red Squirrel Press and South Tyneside Libraries and will be attended by the competition winners and other North East poets.  Admission Free, but please book to avoid disappointment, 0191 424 7863.  Tickets available from the Information Desk, Central Library, South Shields.

'Acquainted with the night' Robert Frost.

One of two interlinked poetry workshops exploring the theme of night in all its diversity, from the familiar to the unknown. After reading poems for pleasure and inspiration there will be a variety of exercises to spark off your own poems. Suitable for writers of all levels including beginners.

March 4th, The Night We Know: Moon and Stars; Sleeping and not sleeping; Night Workers and Travellers

March 18th, The Unknown Night: Dreams and Nightmares; Ghosts and Hauntings; The final sleep

A reading group for people  who are interested in poetry, either reading, listening and/or writing poetry. The group decide which poet or period to look at in future sessions. There are also opportunities for you to read your own poetry.
