Society of Chief Librarians
Libraries are great – after all, where else can you get free books, dvds, time on the computer and courses and activities for all your family? However, we want to make them even better.
We’re the Society of Chief Librarians North East – part of a national support organisation which aims to develop, improve and promote the public library service in England, Wales and Northern Ireland.
Our North East branch represents the twelve library authorities that stretch from Redcar and Cleveland in the south to the Scottish border to the north.
We work closely with the Museums Libraries and Archives Council in the northern area on projects and promotions which can benefit people here in the North East.
Because we want libraries to get better all the time, we also have a number of specialist groups. Each group focuses on a different area, such as children and young people, staff training and development, information and communication technology or local studies and heritage. These groups develop the work in these areas and share good practice, helping to improve the services you see in your local library.
